As I begin my 17th year as a Library Media Specialist, I can't help but think how much libraries have changed and have transformed into places of student-centered learning.  New library standards have been implemented by the State of Texas this year, and I'm proud to say that our libraries at Kemp ISD are keeping up with the changing needs of our students. We have adopted a more "learning commons" concept where students can engage in a diverse array of learning activities.  We have added lots of technology over the past several years that include: chromebooks, ipads, virtual reality glasses, 3D printers, robots, and silhouette cameo printers.  Art, puzzles and materials for students to tap in to their creative side have been added to all libraries.  Since so much learning is done online, we provide a number of databases and online ebooks so that our students have 24/7 access to reliable information that they need for research projects and problem-solving skills all while exploring new ways of learning.  We will continue to strive to provide an attractive, diverse and dynamic learning environment where students want to come and experience learning through research, creativity, collaborating and interacting with each other.
