School Closed for Students until Monday, April 6th
Dear KISD Parents,
Over the past few days since you received communications from the district on the coronavirus being Friday, March 13th, lots of information has been forthcoming and fluid.
I’ve participated in daily phone conferences with the Commissioner of Education Mike Morath at T.E.A. and communicated daily with area superintendents to assure that to the point possible, we were consistent in our plans moving forward.
As you know President Trump announced on Monday, March 16th, (15) steps to follow to “flatten the curve” on spreading the coronavirus and to assemble in groups of 10 or fewer people.
President Trump also asked that as a nation, we adhere to these practices for the next 15 days to assure everyone is taking the virus seriously in the prevention of spreading.
With those directions from our President and after talking to local officials being Mayor Peace, Kemp ISD will be closed through Friday, April 3rd.
Information will be forthcoming in additional posts on meals for students who receive free/reduced meals at school. A posting of when those will begin next week after spring break is over and where the meals can be picked up will be part of the announcements.
Regarding the Texas Education Agency’s directions to provide instructional/learning opportunities at home, while we are closed, will be additional posts to parents on what/how/when/ that learning at home will be implemented for the days we are closed.
Campus Administrators by noon tomorrow (Wednesday, March 18th) will be reaching out to their staff to communicate further directions about their schedule for the week of March 23rd.
We appreciate each and every one of you as we process through these unprecedented times and our goal of health safety for all will remain our top priority.
Dr. Lisa A. Gonzales, Superintendent
